My husband and I just got back from the Daytona Beach area. It was our first trip there since 2000, and we just expected that our favorite restaurant, Sweetwater%26#39;s would be there. What a shock we had when we went there, and there was only an empty lot where it used to be! It was always the best place, beautiful, great food, prices, and atmosphere. It will be sorely missed. We won%26#39;t be returning to the area again. We did not have good experiences at most of the restaurants we tried. Bad service, food, and high prices. The only one we enjoyed at all was Stonewood, great food and service, but a bit pricey.

Glad I checked out the Port Orange forum. We were considering going to Sweetwater%26#39;s when we go to New Smyrna Beach in a few weeks. Last time there we wanted to go so bad and hadn%26#39;t had time that we ate there for lunch before we caught our plane home. Wait until I tell my parents. They%26#39;re going too and will also be so disappointed.

Yes, unfortunately Sweetwaters was closed and demolished around the summer of 2006 to make room for yet another condo that has yet to be built. Aunt Catfish is ok, it%26#39;s near the same area on the river. Blackbeards is similar atmosphere, on US1 in New Smyrna www.blackbeardsinn.com . Park%26#39;s Seafood is good, they just moved www.parksseafood.com , or there%26#39;s always Down the Hatch in Ponce Inlet.
Just a little more info for you on Sweetwaters. The restaurant was actually sold to the City of Port Orange with other properties that will all become the Riverwalk. Sweetwaters was given the opportunity to be a part of the new project but refused. It is a work in progress and it will involve condominums, a park, restaurants, boardwalk etc. As anywhere on the water the property has become so valuable that developers can afford to buy it, tear it down, and put something else there. I%26#39;ve lived here for almost 20 years and it is hard to see things change so much but money talks and growth is inevitable. I hope you%26#39;ll give Daytona Beach another try. We really are a city in redevelopment.
I totally agree with the restaurant comments you made. Unfortunately the restaurants will not pay the chefs and kitchen staff and therefore have no consistency whatsoever. That needs to change the most!
Thanks for the good information. Our family is among those that miss this great place to eat and enjoy the atmosphere. I know the riverwalk area you describe will be first rate as have been any other developments over the years. Look forward to enjoying it.
