Travel within US from and to Orlando

Is it easy to travel with public transport from Orlando to Miami or Naples in Florida. I know it would be possible to fly, but is autobus a consideration and if so how long will it take and cost or are there any cheap airlines operating within Florida. Any info would be appreciated. My husband is elderly and does not want to drive.

It will take you the better part of a day to use what little there is of public transport to do that. You will spend a lot of time just waiting. Orlando to Miami should not be too bad, but I doubt you can include Naples using public transport.

Have you consulted your Google Gods for ideas?

The only bus service from Orlando to other cities is Greyhound, and it is barely adequate at best. Maybe one or two departures per day.

America is a automobile society...we drive everywhere and with exception of flying, there%26#39;s not too many other adequate transportation options.

Ystrady,

Amtrak will get you to Miami, via Tampa.

Depending on which train you catch it%26#39;s either a six or eight hour ride each way.

Flying would likely be the better choice.

Public transport is almost none existent in Florida even by East Yorkshire standards.

In America with the exception of large cities every one drives so there is no need for bus services .

Thats why for Americans their Driving licences are a precious item . losing it is a bigger disaster then losing a credit card.

Even when at Miami you may find it almost impossible to get to Naples.

Your best bet is to Hire a car. Or fly but then you will need taxis at each end . Getting to the beach from almost any hotel on foot will be a good walk.

Check out the link above. After going to it click on coach tours. These buses are nicer than Greyhound, you will be with the same group and it takes you to all the places you mentioned. There are probably many others but this is the one I found so far. Unless you want to stay several days in each location then the other suggestion of Amtrak may be best. Greyhound is dirty, crowded and takes forever to get anywhere as they make many many stops along the route.

I checked this website but there%26#39;s not a lot on offer

all they have is a bustour of about a week

what if you want to go somewhere for just a day?

Hi,

We%26#39;re going to Miami for a mini honeymoon from Orlando (leave on 16/10 %26amp; fly back on 18/10) %26amp; I booked our flights through Continental airlines - cost us approx æ‹¢91.00 each.

The flight to Miami International takes about 1hr %26amp; 15 mins.

You could also try Spirit airlines, as I%26#39;ve heard they are very cheap but reliable %26amp; come recommended by the people who wrote the book %26#39;A Brit%26#39;s guide to Orlando%26#39;.

I don%26#39;t think Jetblue or Southwest fly there, but it might be worth a look on their websites? Hope this helps:)

You can take the train from orlando to south florida.

You dont have to go through tampa to do so. The amtrak will take you to deerfield beach in 4 hours. I have personally done this a few times. But I am sure it does go futhersouth as the line does not change. The trip is pleasent. You do get to see a lot of local florida.

I am unsure of getting to naples. Although I gotta say, perhaps you should just pick one spot, or maybe take public transport to the keys area (buses are available that are not the greyhound variety) you will get more culture and experiance in miami and the keys than you will in naples. naples is nice but its just a beach and shopping and you can get just as good and better in miami. Naples is really touristy infact. When I was young we would go and stay at the ritz. There was really nothing to do there. The shops were pricey, as the resturants, as the hotels.

If you take the silver meator 97 train it leaves orlando around 1:10 and gets in at 6:55. Which is 5 hours and 45 minutes. Only about an hour and fifteen minutes longer than it would take to drive. thats not bad. and for 17 quid a person.

You can fly jet blue, spirit airlines, southwest (goes to ft lauderdale and you can take a taxi or the local tram lines to get into miami, very easy to do so). but I would first start with AIR TRAN.

cookie- if you want to go to miami just for the day... the best bet is flying. take an early (and I mean early flight out) and take a late (and I mean late flight out) remember you have to be at the airport an hour and a half before a flight (at least) it could be done.

If you book a flight, expect 70 quid a person.

whoops for got this important thing!
