Room with a View

I am looking for a hotel in South Beach that has a balcony with a view of the beach/ocean view, close to the resturants and clubs. We are willing to pay up to 300.00 a night. any suggestions?

Room with a View

If you are coming during off season, an oceanfront with balcony

that is well located for 300 or less is possible at the Strand,

Royal Palm, or the Benley Beach which is in an

area called south of fifth and about five blocks or so from many

restaurants and clubs. Also in the same area as the Benley there is

the Savoy. Probably the best of all are the cabana rooms

at the National. Check out the reviews of these hotels as well

as the candid photos on this sight. The Mariott which is at

the far southern end of Ocean Drive but still walkable to most places is having excellent rates because their pool is being renovated, but you are given free access to the pool and beach

a few doors up at the Savoy(higher floors will escape any

inconvenience from construction).

When?

A car is a hassle on South Beach, what with parking charges, filled lots and constant towing. My suggestion is to find a centrally located hotel, near clubs, beach, shopping and restaurants. That means you want to be between Lincoln Road and Ocean Drive, more or less. Anything south of Fifth requires taxi rides.

I would look into the Tides, Lowe%26#39;s and the Doubletree Surfcomber. These are on northern South Beach, closer to Lincoln Road, within walking to Ocean Drive.

try robinsnest.com- a private owner of a condominium unit at the Shelbourne. Her room has a wonderful view and the location of the Shelbourne is great.

Rcab-- with all do respect, I would be hesitant to recomend a

nice unit in an overall shabby hotel that has seen its day and

continue to advise the hotels I recomended above which

get very good reviews on this sight.

Thank you for your suggestions... we plan to visit in early August.

sobeaddict: I bow to your expertise (but not your spelling or punctuation). I was simply giving toni an option, which she could look into if she wanted... I thought this forum was for everyone- sorry!

Recab, no need to aplogize as I was just giving an opinion on your opinion based on a sight visit to the Shelborne(sp?) and the

many other reviews of it on this sight. I continue to enjoy your

take on travel which is frequently useful for the budget minded.

Early August you will be able to get an oceanfront room for under $300/night but I%26#39;m not sure of the ones with a balcony,

The Regent South Beach is running some specials on stays of 3 nights or more but their ocean view runs around $350/night and they%26#39;re right across Ocean Dr. from the beach.

The facts:

Everyone has a right to their opinion.

The Shelborne is a condo-hotel, unlike most of the other hotels in that prime section of South Beach where it is located. So a direct comparison may not be accurate.

All of the hotels receive bad reviews and good reviews.

The Shelborne is almost always fully rented. The bulk of the negative reviews are of units run by the hotel program, and usually the last ones to rent when all of the better units have been rented, ie the ';bottom of the barrel';

The private rentals, including Robin%26#39;s nest, get good reviews.

Robin%26#39;s nest indeed has a wonderful view - and offers a great value.

Advisor girl has referred a handful of private rentals, which include our unit, Susy%26#39;s beach getaway Allysa%26#39;s beach loft and Robin%26#39;s nest.

And yes, I also own a unit at the Shelborne that I enjoy staying at very much.

Our guests enjoy staying there as well. The good reviews we have received are a testament to that. We invite you to look up our reviews on tripadvisor if you have any doubt.
