Hi guys,
Going in July, Stayin at the Ritz.
I hear some negative opinions about it, is it a good resort?
Ritz wise?
Thanx
Te Ritz Carlton
If you click on the ';Hotels'; heading at the top of this page, and click on the Ritz you can read reviews.
The Ritz is in downtown Sarasota on US 41. It is your typical Ritz with the El Vernona Restaurant being good and a nice bar area. Servie is very good. Most like the Club level for all the extras.
Activities such as golf and the beach are '; off site';. You take a shuttle from the hotel to get there.
July wil be hot and humid, so be prepared.

Te Ritz Carlton
The Ritz gets good comments from locals, and also gets the usual highest number of ';diamonds'; or ';stars'; that hotel rating groups award.
Suggest you rent a car to give you some flexibility to explore the area.
Thanx alolt guys =)
Any suggestions for good casual seafood restaurants in the area?
For casual, I%26#39;d suggest Dry Dock -- it%26#39;s at the south end of Longboat Key which is maybe 3 miles from the Ritz. It%26#39;s on the water pretty much across the bay from the Ritz. Further up Longboat is an excellent upscale restaurant, Pattigeorge%26#39;s, that serves a great Bahamian Lobstertail. For quick and casual food, some people like Barnacle Bills, downtown, but that%26#39;s not my favorite. You could do a tiki bar place with fried shrimp kinds of things at O%26#39;Learys which is on the bayfront, probably walking distance from the Ritz.
You didn%26#39;t ask, but going to the other extreme, two of the finest restaurants in town are the Bijou (about 3 blocks from the Ritz) with excellent continental cuisine served in an elegant atmosphere, and Rustic Grill (maybe about 6 blocks away) which is a fun environment and superb food (their tuna sashimi is to die for).
You will be in walking distance to Main Street.
As mentioned there is Barnacle Bills. There is also Mattisons City Grille. Some of the more reasonable and really good seafood is not in the downtown. You would have to drive.

Beware if you are going in the next couple of months. They are knocking down the Quay next door to the Ritz. We were supposed to stay there last week for the whole week but the wrecking ball flying around and the clouds of dust passing over the pool made us move. It%26#39;s a huge building they are working on so there is going to be some construction when you go there.
You might want to look at the Lido Beach Resort, too.

HaileyR24 - don%26#39;t know if this is too late for your trip, but the Sunday Brunch at the Ritz is amazing. We went on our last trip, and it sure beach the Waldorf%26#39;s and the now gone Plaza%26#39;s Sunday brunches.
It%26#39;s very pricey but so worth it!
We%26#39;re also staying at the Ritz on this trip and already have a booking for brunch!
