the official hurricane season starts June 1st and ends November 30th.
storms
this is the official national hurricane centres website http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml
The spring (April, May, June) is the typical ';Tornado'; season in the USA, but that doesn%26#39;t necessarily apply to Florida so much as it does to the Midwest, the Great Plains (where ';Tornado Alley'; is, including North Texas, OK, and Kansas), and the Southeast north of Florida; tornadoes can happen much of the year here, but most of the time don%26#39;t mean much; any time a severe storm hits, a tornado is a possibility, but doesn%26#39;t really happen that often, and normally aren%26#39;t that severe (relatively). There were waterspouts on Lake Apopka, a large lake in the NW Orlando area, a few weeks ago or so. Also, when hurricanes come nearby, tornadoes are often produced.
The exception to tornadoes not normally being that severe in Central Florida are the years when the ';El Nino'; weather pattern persists; then the winter months can have deadly tornadoes. This past winter had ';El Nino';, and there were strong tornadoes on December 25 in Volusia County (North Orlando, Daytona Beach), and then in February, there was a killer tornado near Lady Lake, in Lake CountySumter County to the far NW of Orlando near the Villages (I think it killed near 20.)
During the previous El Nino, in 1998, in late Feb., there were 3 tornadoes in the Orlando area on one night that killed 42 people, (including 20 or so people in one trailer park near Osceola Heritage Park, east of Downtown Kissimmee).
The peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is officially Sept. 10. The most frequent months for hurricanes are August, September, and October. In 2005, though, there were Atlantic hurricanes and tropical storms from June through December.
bigbopper000,
As usual Eddie is exactly correct.
I drove through the area where the tornado wiped out the Ponderosa Trailer Park in Kissimmee two days after the tornado ripped through.
The tornado devastated the mobile homes, but left a canvas tent sheilded by the highway overpass intact. It jumped across the Florida Turnpike and attacked the site built homes over there. In spite of horriffic damage to the houses, no one in a site built house was seriously injured. After it finished with the houses, it destroyed a strip mall and overturned a fully loaded tractor trailer, destroyed a telephone switch building before finally dissappearing into the sky again.
The moral of the story is if bad weather is headed in your direction take precautions. If not, do not let it spoil your plans.
