We have stayed at Boardwalk Condos twice and been very satisfied. After hearing so much about VRBO, i looked into it, and found a great looking condo at Sterling Reef. I am so leary about VRBO, you hear those horror stories. The price on this one sounds so good, I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about Sterling Reef or VRBO # 66089(L. King) at St.Reef. Thanks for anyhelp you can give. We are going the first week of October.
New to VRBO and Sterling Reef-any help?Ok I won%26#39;t panic yet...What VRBO horror stories? I am renting through them for a Gulfcrest condo in two weeks..should I be nervous?
Anyone?
New to VRBO and Sterling Reef-any help?sorry, didnt mean to freak you out!
The stories are few and far between, but there was a lady on here not too long ago talking about renting a unit at Edgewater and now she is talking about suing the women over the rental. Sometimes, you hear of owners who wont return deposits. I noticed one on VRBO that had a $500 deposit! Little things like that. Or they would show pictures of one unit and you get there and it would be a totally different unit, gross.
Like I said, most people have really good reports on VRBO so, dont be worried about what I said. I am always leary when going to a new condo or doing something differently than I%26#39;m used to.
Sorry again!:(
We have been renting through owners on VRBO for several years now, and will never go back to renting through the management offices.
That being said, we did have a bad experience last year at Long Beach Resort renting through VRBO. The lady who posted the condo was actually managing it for another owner, and when we arrived the unit was in the middle of a full carpet replacement, had not been cleaned, and was in a general state of disrepair. After several hours on the phone trying to reach someone we finally were connected with the owner, who was rude and really couldn%26#39;t care less about our situation. After taking a lot of pictures and documenting the situation we did get a partial refund, but the first 3 days of our stay were blown.
Out of several years that is the only bad experience we have had through VRBO, and we had many bad experiences through onsite management before.
I think it is really important to get on the phone and have a talk with the owner, and if you have any doubts just go with another owner.
we have rented with vrbo about 3 times now and every owner has been great so dont be worried.
alot of time they have soooo many condos and they just rent them pretty cheap and if I%26#39;m not mistaken I think October is off season that is why the condo is cheap. the one your looking at looks nice.
we rented ours for the first week of August and some of the condo were still high prices and we found ours really cheap for a 4 bedroom.
hope this helps you out a bit.
Thanks for the help. That makes me feel much better!
I was just telling a tech at my son%26#39;s orthodontist (sp?) about TA this morning. She had never heard of it, and her family is leaving sat for Gulf Shores for the first time. I told her it has been a GodSend to be able to talk to others about their experiences and learn about new places to eat and some to avoid. Thanks again!!

I just returned from Sterling Reef on Saturday and rented from VRBO 66089. The unit was very nice and clean. The pictures on the site are the ones of the unit. We had 5 people in the room. (Me, my wife and 3 kids ranging in age from 12 to 19). The complex aminities were nice with a good pool on beachside, good workout room and a grilling area. The kids especially liked the free movie rentals that you can get in the lobby of the complex. The beach was great. We enjoyed our stay and the room was very comfortable.
We found a couple of good resturants nearby, Another Broken Egg for breakfast and Bonefish Grill for dinner. Both are just a block from the complex.
Hope you enjoy your stay and Gob Bless.
THANK YOU, Old Timer,
You made my day! I feel SOOOO much better knowing that someone else has rented from Mr.King and stayed in this unit.
