Hurricanes

lets say there is a hurricane while im there 23rd aug-7th sep.

what happens, how long does the worse last till u can go out again and what do they do,as i heard there could be one brewing out in the atlantic :( . what happens?

Hurricanes

You would be confined to your hotel until it has passed. (There is normally a curfew) How long it lasts depends on how long the storm takes to pass and how much damage is caused.

Having been there trough one in 2004 it is quite an experience.

Hurricanes

Depends on the size of the storm, the speed, and how directly it hits Orlando.

The last two hurricanes to directly hit Orlando as hurricanes were Charlie in August 2004, and Donna in 1960. So direct hits from hurricanes have been relatively rare. Somewhat indirect hits, such as Frances and Jean, both in September 2004, and Wilma in 2005, are more common.

Charlie only lasted something like 5-6 hours, but the repercussions (power outages, cleanup) lasted for days, and in some cases weeks. At our house, power was restored within 24 hours, but the house behind me took 7 days. Within a couple of days, the roads were OK (major fallen trees cleaned up, etc.), but for weeks there were piles of tree branches, debris everywhere.

Jean lasted about 24 hours; I was out of town for Frances, but it was weaker than the other three. There were power outages for all three of these, I think; at least for Jean and Charlie.

Wilma lasted about 9 hours, and where I was (the northside of Orlando), the power did not go out.

Remember, Orlando is not directly on the coast, and there is a bit of a difference between how the coast gets it and how we get it, even if the center of the hurricane is not any closer to the coast than us.

ok ,should be good the hotels.

We where there for the 2004 hurricane cannot remember name now but we where told to get supplies for minimum3 days and that a curfew would be in place from 1pm sat night till 5pm sunday night

The tv was the first thing to go then the lights it was scary at points but the worst part was seeing the devastation it leaves for the people who live there who where still just getting over a previous one and people had been without power for weeks

we also landed in Key West in 2005 after the hurricane there actually a day before it offiially opened agin and seeing peopls lives just dumped on the sidewalk at the end of their driveways is horrible

Floridians are very resilient

hope u do not get caught in one or us still possible leave on 20/09/07

not long now

Got caught in 2004 by hurricain Jean, had to stay in our rooms for 24 hrs, wasnt too bad as stayed in disney and they played disney films all day. Next day after storm had passed few trees etc down but parks were reopened - All depends how big the storm is I suppose.

If the hurricanes come, waterparks will certainly close -- little bit of lightnening can cause the whole park to shut down for the day -- many people are given ';rain checks'; but travellers do not have the luxury to actually come back on another day.

As for the main parks, once the weather gets rainy and windy many of the shows and rides will start closing...either temporarily or for the whole day... The parks may remain open but it is meaningless to stay if the rides/shows are closed...

I%26#39;d suggest that you go to Disney Quest if you ever get in this situation. It is an small indoor theme park located in Downtown Disney with bunch of games to play. Should be fun for the kids as well as adults.

Good luck!

I was there in 2005 with jeane and we just stayed in the room for around 24 hours, it was not bad really, we made sure we went out side to film it! I would not worry about it, disney took very good car of us

sorry meant 2004!!!
