jellyfish

We are planning a trip to St Augustine soon and i was wondering if there have been many jellyfish in the water. I heard there have been quite a few recently down around Daytona.

I was at the beach last week, no purple flag....

are you saying you haven%26#39;t seen any jellyfish at the beach Conrad ??

Mehmet

Nope. I%26#39;ll ask the guests who went today. Cannonball jellyfish are not hazardous, Portuguese men of war are. Purple Flag put up by lifeguards indicates hazardous marine life.

From: …state.ga.us/content/displaycontent.asp…

---%26gt;Congregations of millions of cannonball jellyfish occur in the waters off Georgia in the spring and fall and can be a nuisance to shrimp trawlers by clogging the nets. Swimmers and beach walkers need not be concerned though, the cannonball jellyfish does not sting.

How could you tell the difference between the two if you were to see them in the water?

Hope someone answers this Borntotravel, I%26#39;d like to know too!!

The cannonball jellyfish is entirely submerged, whereas the portuguese man of war resembles a ...hmmm...clear half-inflated condom? ziploc baggie?...with a bit of a purple %26#39;mane%26#39; on top, floating on the water. The tentacles hang below and can be quite long, even for a small a man of war...say if the top part is 3-4 inches long, the tentacles may be up to 3 feet long and very thin. They can sting even if they%26#39;re dead washed up on shore. Getting stung by one is like getting a wasp sting or an electric shock. NOT fun! Thankfully they%26#39;re only present during a short time in St. Aug, and then only when the wind is blowing onshore.

Which beach do you go to Conrad. If i have seen jellyfish on st augustine beach it sure would scared me. I better becareful just incase.

Mehmet
