We are going to Florida next May.(LBTS or Pompano Beach) It would be great if someone could recommend a nice hotel or motel, clean and not so+ far from the beach, but not to expensive.
Places to stay
LBTS is a very small area. I think all of the accomodations would be either on the beach or very close. It is hard to tell from the outside what they look like inside so check the reviews carefully.
There is a huge Air and Sea Show in Fort Lauderdale the first weekend in May. Accomodations will probably be more expensive than usual for that weekend.
Places to stay
Do you think it麓s better to go in June instead of May?
Not necessarily but if you want to go in the begining of May you should book your hotel as soon as you can.
I%26#39;m going to fly down to Fort Lauderdale tonight to check on my condo so if you have a hotel in mind I could drive by and tell you what it looks like from the outside. My condo is close to LBTS and I will be driving up that way anyway,
That would be great! We are thinking about Great Escape Hotel 4620 N Ocean Drive and Shore Haven 4433 N Ocean Drive. And if you should see any another hotel that looks nice maybe you could tell us that.
Thank you very much!
Ok, I will take a look probably Mon. or Tuesday. The hotels on Ocean Drive could be a little noisy as its a busy road. Many of the hotels in LBTS are on ElMar. Some are right on the water and some across the street. ElMar is usually a much quieter street but with construction in the area it will be hard to tell what it could be like in May.
Just a guess on my part, but I think ShoreHaven would be the better of the two as far as room condition. I was up that way today , but didn%26#39;t drive north of Commercial , which is where both are I believe. That is a very busy area traffic wise- the main beach road- but not as busy in May as in season- lots of people were jaywalking across it today and in season that would be impossible. I do think they are doing some major construction in that area- I know they are excavating for an additional municipal parking lot practically across the street from where I think ShoreHaven is- don%26#39;t know how long that will be taking or what it means when it is done.
Pat is very correct that it is very difficult to tell what the hotels in LBTS are like behind closed doors- they are all Mom and Pop places and some spend more on maintaining and updating than others. ShoreHaven gets decent reviews here, but sometimes they may be from their seasonal ';regulars'; who may be very loyal to the owners.
Lets see what Pat thinks on her drive by ( Welcome back Pat!)
Thanks, Lulutoo.
I did a drive by tonight. Both the hotels you asked about were on A1A. Great Escapes in on the east side of the street and Shore Haven on the west side of the street.
Given your two choices, if I was picking a place for my family, I would go with Shore Haven.
Even though Shore Haven is a little farther from the beach (just crossing of a street) it is better located to restaurants and nightlife. It is just north of Commercial.
Shore Haven is a larger property than Great Escape (although not that big) that could be a plus or a minus for you. I like meeting other people so to me the more the merrier.
Hotels on ElMar are in a quieter area than those on
A1A. Driving down ElMar, from the outside I like Buena Vista Hotel and Conference Center,. It is just across the street from the beach. I didn%26#39;t see a pool but I read they have an agreement with a sister property.
Have a great time!
Thank you very much Pat!
This info was really helpful, because it麓s so hard to know what a place is like just from their website.
If you haven%26#39;t already done so, send an email to lbts.com and they will send you a vacation planner. You should also get info from sunny.org.
Have a wonderful trip.
I麓ve just sent an email to lbts.com so hopefully they send us a guidbook soon.
Good idea. Thanks Pat!
