...to make me purchase that trip insurance today :) Hopefully there won%26#39;t be another one materialize in the next 12 days, but better safe than sorry, huh?
Hurricane Dean is enough....There is a system that has formed off the northern FL,/Ga coast. It%26#39;s still a ways off and won%26#39;t likely affect KW, but it could affect connecting cities. It is currently dubbed ';92L';.
Hurricane Dean is enough....Great....hope it%26#39;s not gearing up to be a bad year
So far, it%26#39;s just a normal huricane season. Up until Katrina, not many in the north paid much attention to what we have to pay attention to annually down here. It is not unusual to have several storms all floating around at once. Many never make landfall and few up north are even aware they are out there.
The main factors that cause this to be ';hurricane season'; and why this is the peak of that season are many, but the main ones are steering currents, water temperatures, and wind shear (or lack of).
There has been a lot of sheer and dry air in the Atlantic so far this year, but that is mostly declining. Expect to see a lot of storms for the next 30-45 days. Whether any make landfall in or close to KW or any place else in the US remains to be seen, but chances are that both will occur at some point. It%26#39;s just a fact of life here.
Just keep watching here. We will try to make everyone as aware as possible as soon as possible. I just found out about 92L earlier this morning.
Really appreciate the input you give...it is helpful. For now, remaining positive and, as I told someone in a private message, just assuming we%26#39;ll be enjoying KW this time two weeks from now and hunting down a great bloody mary about this time...
Are you getting *any* winds, rain or overcast skies at all from Dean?
Very windy today. Lots of fluffy white and very fast moving clowds. The forecast is for scattered showers, the chances increasing as the day goes on, but that%26#39;s normal here this time of year.
Pls keep us updated on 92L - I will be there Sep 1st. Our fingers are crossed!
I agree - BK I really appreciate your weather updates and insight into what it means, or may mean, for KW.
We%26#39;ll be down in 2 weeks as well.
NOAA has added a new tropical discussion with satelite imagery so you can see what they are talking about.

While BK is not a meteorologist, he DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :-)
I got more comprehensible information from CBK on Dean than I get on NOAA%26#39;s site or from watching that darn, overdramatic Weather Channel! I%26#39;m a wreck during hurricane season each year. In July, however, I had hurricane shutters installed -- maybe I%26#39;ll sleep a bit easier now.
