trip report cont. (magic kingdom)

Fri 3rd Aug

Today we went to Magic Kingdom. We didn’t arrive until about 11am as we knew we wanted to stay till after the Wishes fireworks %26amp; thought it would be a massively long day if we got there for opening! The park was reasonably busy so we headed straight to Frontierland %26amp; whilst the family waited in quite a short line for Splash mountain, I pulled them fastpasses for Big Thunder Mountain railroad! Once they had done the first it was just enough time to re-hydrate with a cold drink then onto the other ride. They all enjoyed both rides %26amp; liked all the unexpected mini drops on Splash Mountain, as well as the big drop at the end.

We went over to Aventureland %26amp; pulled passes for Jungle cruise to go back in 2 hours or so %26amp; then were lucky enough to catch the start of a street performance of 2 pirates, one of which not only was the spit of Johny Depp as Jack Sparrow but had the mannerisms %26amp; accent down to a tee! (very tasty girls!!) As the crowd grew %26amp; they seemed like they were about to finish, we quickly headed into “Pirates” before the whole crowd dispersed %26amp; trebled the line wait time!! Loved this ride %26amp; it was a shame we ran out of time to re-ride it later. It had changed a lot in a decade.

Lunchtime we ate at Starlight cafe in Tommorowland %26amp; the food was really good. Mr Lou had a kinda build your own burger %26amp; 2 of us had the shredded barbecue pork in a bap roll. After this it was so hot we did “Carousel of progress” to escape the heat. The Tomorrowland transit closed down whilst we were waiting %26amp; everything else here was so busy with no passes left, so we decided to return later.

We went back %26amp; did the Jungle Cruise %26amp; bypassed everyone with our passes, right to the front %26amp; straight onto the boat! The ride was boring BUT the skipper of the boat was extremely funny %26amp; some of his humour was completly spontaineous. Me %26amp; Mr Lou really had a good chuckle!

We had booked dinner at 6.30pm at Tony’s Town Square Italian %26amp; about 5pm we got in line for a Cinderella photo meet %26amp; greet, as it stated 45 mins wait. Plenty of time we thought. Big mistake! It took 90 mins ! %26amp; we had to run all the way over to our reservation! Probably shouldn’t have worried though as there is not alot to really say about this place, nothing special %26amp; a predictable menu. The kids liked the Lady %26amp; the Tramp Fountain. Shame that this was it’s only highlight!

After this we went all out to try %26amp; get round the park abit quicker %26amp; managed to do It’s a small World, Snow White’s Scary Adventure %26amp; Mickey’s PhilharMagic in reasonably quick succession. Everyone hated Small world %26amp; my niece thought the dolls were like Chukie! Very frightening she said! PhilharMagic was lovely! Ahh Donald Duck is just so naughty but just so cute! Great ending! One of my favourites in the park.

We seemed to spend alot of time walking back %26amp; forth between Fantasyland %26amp; Tommorowland, think we walked our lunch %26amp; dinner off! The heat had really begun to get to us! Yet again back to Tomorrowland %26amp; rode the Transit Authority. This had some nice views %26amp; we liked the way it took you through part of Space Mountain %26amp; Buzz Lightyear. The kids were all excited now having seen the coaster shooting round, so it was straight over to them afterwards to use the fastpasses pulled 3 hours earlier to have used before the Cinderella signing fiasco! They all loved the fast speed in the dark %26amp; the tight turns %26amp; closed in feel of this coaster. The anticipation is really high as you queue up %26amp; see the fluorescent capsules darting around like shooting stars.

At 9pm we watched Wishes Fireworks. I am sorry here if I upset anyone, but Mr Lou was the most upset as he had thought Tinkerbell to be rather cute, until he saw her ride across the sky just before the fireworks began. Now picture this, in Eric Morcambe’s immortal line, she was “short , fat %26amp; hairy!”. I think the real petite, pixie like castmember must have had a day off this particular day! And her brother stood in! How we tittered. It kinda ruined the magic at the beginning!

That said the fireworks %26amp; lighting of the castle was brilliant. After this we wandered a bit %26amp; then watched the Spectro Magic parade at 11pm. It was much quieter than at the 9pm %26amp; with only a 10 minute wait in position for it to start, we had a front row spot at the rope, just before they turn into the entrance to Liberty Square.

And so home to bed after a very long day!
