Parking in Disabled area at WDW without a UK Blue Badge

Could anyone tell me if its possible to do the above ??

I am travelling in October to Orlando, and will be taking my Disabled son with me... He is too young to qualify for a badge as yet, Dispite being in a wheelchair %26amp; registered blind..

It will be REALLY hard for me if we have to park miles from the gates for the theme parks, as I will be alone %26amp; Travis%26#39;s chair does not fold to allow me to use the Trams.. Also I will have a bag of medical stuff to carry as well as all the usual things...

Can anyone give any advice??

Thankyou

If you get a letter from your g.p. and go and show it at disney reception you should be able to park close but make sure you are ther early as disabled spots soon go.i am disabled, in wheel chair so we understand how hard things can be.You can get disabled taxis that you wheel the chair in to thats what we do,they are big as we are family of 5.also you get a pass from the main office and you dont have to queue up for any rides.you go to the front for wheel chairs.just show the pass.they also do it at universel.they will only have to see your son is disabled you should not have a problem. dont worry ameirca is disabled freindly all over better than england any day.you will be fine, have agood holiday. We go 6 oct to 4 nove cant wait,.if i can helpp again just write i check all the time. angiex

Ah! I remember this was discussed at great length some time back, and those in the know will come along and correct me but, I%26#39;m pretty sure you do have to display a badge if you%26#39;re going to use a disabled spot now. Although this is just recent, having gone into effect this past May.

You now have to apply to get a temporary badge from the county you%26#39;ll be staying in, i.e. if you%26#39;re staying in Lake Buena Vista, then you%26#39;ll have to apply to Orange County, Kissimmee then Osceola County, etc. You can no longer use a UK blue badge, it has to be one of their own. You also need a headed doctor%26#39;s letter.

I paid particular attention to this discussion because I was looking into getting a temp. badge for my mother-in-law. But she gave it back when her hip was replaced. So it%26#39;s no longer relavent to me.

But obviously it%26#39;s info worth knowing for those who do need a badge. But somebody please tell me if I%26#39;m wrong. I%26#39;d hate to give out the wrong info where something like this is concerned.

They wont accept your Blue badge even if you took it now. Nor can you negotiate a disabled parking spot on the gate.

Too many people claiming to be disabled when thy are not officially statemented.

Lots of theses places were being taken by the fat and lazy.

Almost same issue as the motorise and ordinary wheel chairs

Hire in the parks and associated queue jumping issue.

So now you have to apply to the local county authorities for a temporary disabled permit .

But this also allows you to use it out side the parks parking lots.

It the US it is an offence in many states to park in a designated disabled parking spot if you ar not disabled.

And it is policed as well.

Pity our own Police dont ticket cars in Britain that the inconsiderate use that aren%26#39;t Disabled.

It happens here too, XR. I see it all the time in car parks. People have a blue Disable Handicap car hanger for a family member who is not with them at the time, but they park in the handicap spot. I wish the police would ticket them - it would be an easy source of revenue.

Thanks to you all for your reply%26#39;s....

I will definately go and see guest relations when we get to Disney, to see if they can help..

One of his conditions means Travis cannot control the levels of fluid in his body, which I give him regular medication to conteract....

As you can tell this means he needs lots of rest breaks in cool conditions, so I hope the walk from the car is not too hot, as it could cause problems for us..

If I have to walk though so be it....

Travis will qualify for the badge when he reaches 2 yrs old, due to his blindness alone, without taking into account all his other problems...

It does seem unfair that he has to wait though, when it would make such a difference to us.

Hi

if you are unable to get a disabled bay (and to be honest in some parks they are not near the gate), it may be better asking a parking assistant when you get in line to to park, if it is possible to park at the end of a line - next to the buggies that take you to the gate.

I took my elderly immobile mother to Disney recently and we found everyone went out of their way once they realised that there was a geniune need and we were not being lazy.

This worked in Disney and Seaworld.

sorry, just realised you can%26#39;t use the trams.

In that case, please speak with Disney direct as I%26#39;m sure they will assist.

Thanks LR....

I think I may have to go direct %26amp; speak to Disney to see if they have any proceedures in place for cases such as ours....

The problem is I can%26#39;t find an e-mail address for them, %26amp; I don%26#39;t want to phone long distance unless I have too..

Imagine the phone bill...!

Still when I consider how much I have spent already, it would be worth it..

Chuts

I have to jump in here with this comment ';People have a blue Disable Handicap car hanger for a family member who is not with them at the time, but they park in the handicap spot';.

How do you know its for someone else and not the person in the car? You can%26#39;t always tell if someone has a disablility just by looking at them.

I have back and leg problems and I am able to get a disabled parking sticker, but I don%26#39;t have one. You would not be able to tell anything is wrong with me as I am young, only 27, and I can walk without assistance.

My father has a disabled sticker as he has really bad arthritis and at times can hardly walk so he uses an electric chair, but other times he looks fine.

Not to jump on you :) , but I just drives me nut when people say ';Oh that person isn%26#39;t disabled';. Just because they aren%26#39;t in a wheelchair doesn%26#39;t mean nothing is wrong.

Hazel

If you aren%26#39;t able to get any info from anyone here if you have the number I can call them and find out for you as I am in Orlando so it won%26#39;t cost anything and then post their response here for you.

Just let me know. :)
