Ash Street Inn vs. Hoyt House?

I will be visiting Amelia Island soon and I am having a hard time deciding between the Ash Street Inn and the Hoyt House. They both look charming. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

Ash Street Inn vs. Hoyt House?

My husband and I vacationed on Amelia in Feb. of %26#39;05. He found what looked to be a great B%26amp;B, the Ash Street Inn in the Historic District. Boy were we surprised. The room we got was dirty, food was left in the dresser from previous guests and the staff person told us it was ours now. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have ever tried to sleep in. We were told there were 2 chairs to relax in but discovered only one, and the bed really did not make for good seating. Never did we find a nice response from the owners or staff when we would greet the them. Having made a few friends there ,the next morning we chose to have breakfast together only to be asked to move from the larger table to 2 seperate ones in the middle of our meal for a larger party who were regulars. We walked across the street to the Baily House to inquire about a room but were told they were booked. One night was enough at the Ash Street. When we were told the owner we may stay 5 nights instead of 2 he offered us a deal on the room but would not switch rooms for us although there were empty ones. My husband had been online prior to the trip and discovered another place on South Fletcher called Elizabeth Point Lodge. Not only was it cheaper to stay on the beach but the place is wonderful. It looks like a New England lodge and the cleanliness was wonderful the people great, location couldn%26#39;t be beat, rooms the best, breakfast outstanding and all less expensive than the Ash Street. But I did like Ash Street%26#39;s tee Shirts. Have been back to Amelis this year but rented a house on the beach with our son and daughter-in-law, if not we would have stayed at Elizabeth Point.

p.s. there was also a nasty odor coming from the bay near the historic district and we were told it%26#39;s almost always there

p.p,s. we never mentioned the condition of the room till checkout the next morning at the Ash Street when asked why we cut our stay short

Ash Street Inn vs. Hoyt House?

My husband and I are planning a trip (first-time) to Amelia Island this September. In looking at all the B%26amp;B choices on-line we favor Elizabeth Pointe. I see you rented a beach house this time around. I hope you had better luck than at the Ash Street.

What accomodations from your visits would you recommend we try if we are unable to stay at Elizabeth Pointe? Did you find your beach house rental through a rental agent?

We welcome any advise you can provide us.

We stayed at the Ash Street Inn a couple of weeks ago. It was just OK. The room was not the cleanest and there was not some of the ';extras'; that we have come to expect from other B %26amp; B%26#39;s. The afternoon snacks consisted of cookies one afternoon and brownies the other. There was a pitcher of iced tea to go along with the sweet snack. Ice was at a premium with a small cooler of melted water for guests to use. When we inquired about ice for our cooler for our day trips were were told to go to the store around the corner. The hotel is very centrally located at was easy to walk into town. If yo stay at the Elizabeth Lodge you will have to drive everywhere. If you are looking for good food try 29th Street and Lulu%26#39;s Bra and Grill. Have fun, it is a great little city!
