Toll road route or not?

Hi, will be travelling down from FL to KW and was wondering if it were possible, and recommended, to avoid the toll roads. If not, what would be the approximate charge levied?

If anyone here could answer the same question with regards to the route between Sanford and FL it would be a bonus.

Cheers.

Toll road route or not?

we normally do not take a toll road until we get to the Miami area, then you have to. We take interstate 95 all the way.

I know the turnpike is $11.00 from Orlando to Palm Beach Gardens.

Toll road route or not?

The $10 or $12 is worth it. I%26#39;ve taken both 95 and the turnpike... The turnpike is fast, easy and dumps you off right at the beginning of the Keys in Florida City. (think of it this way.... Would you pay the price of three glasses of beer in order to get your first one an hour earlier??)

You will need to take the turnpike ( toll road ).

The entrance is just west of FLL. Easy to get to ,just follow the signs.

I can%26#39;t remember,the tolls going down is 3 or 4 dollars.

You will want to take the toll road. Unless you are really really really really really really really (you get the point) mad at yourself. Then take 95.

The $3.00 will be the best investment of the trip.

Thanks folks - appreciate the input as ever!

It%26#39;s definately a better idea to not worry about the cost and think of the speed and ease of driving. I%26#39;ve been down to KW before, although that was 17 years ago!

I just read on some reports that A1A (I think) was scenic and worth the hassle.

Cheers again, see ya Sept! (although I%26#39;ll probably have a couple other Qs between now and then)

Rob.

';just read on some reports that A1A (I think) was scenic and worth the hassle';

Only if you enjoy stopping at a red light every block and looking at strip malls with all the same stores that you have at home.

Take the turnpike...pay the toll...save your stops for once you get to Key Largo.

From Ft. Lauderdale airport and international bean field to the end of the road at Florida City is a whopping $4.00 in tolls.

I%26#39;ve driven both the turnpike (toll) and interstate. Pay the 4 bucks.

Pay one more dollar after you%26#39;re off the turnpike. Take Card Sound Road. There%26#39;s a $1.00 charge, it%26#39;s slower, and it%26#39;ll take lots longer than US 1. LOTS longer?

Sure. Just before you hit the toll booth on Card Sound Road, you%26#39;ll see Alabama Jack%26#39;s on the right. Stop. Nosh. Drink. Wind down. Aahhhh.

A year ago right now, I%26#39;d been driving s. FLA to the Keys off %26amp; on for 19 years and did NOT like Card Sound Road. But we%26#39;d never done Alabama Jack%26#39;s.

We stopped there in September. I%26#39;m a convert. I%26#39;ll stop there every chance I have.

Gotta go check those flight schedules....

How come no one suggested Krome Ave? Its fast, direct and free.

Turnpike definitely Mooby- as others have said FLL to Florida City is only $4.00 and the other route (I-95 ) is very congested and frustrating.

You may want to enjoy A1A when you are here in Ft. Lauderdale- drive up to Boca Raton along the Ocean.-but for Key West take the Turnpike- once it dumps you out at Florida City ( US1) you will have plenty of slow, scenic driving for the next three hours to Key West- and you will want to stop at least briefly at a place at Mile Marker 77 named after you (Robbie%26#39;s) to see the giant tarpon fish ( look for it on the right side of the road, you%26#39;ll see little MIle Markers along the way and it is at MM77 , just south of the Bridge). I%26#39;ll be disappointed if you don%26#39;t see it- and take a photo near the sign for your friends! Also great fish sandwiches there!!

I think for Sanford I might be tempted to take I-95 all the way as you will be east of Orlando anyway and no point backtracking and there is not heavy traffic till about Palm Beach as far I remember- but post in the Orlando Forum and see what others think as I haven%26#39;t driven it in a while. .
