a passport question

I went to the states last year and as long as you have a machine readable passport (which your new passports will be) you should be ok. As long as your visiting for less than 90 days you can enter under the visa waiver programme, just fill in the green form on the plane. When you get to immigration in the US they will take finger prints from your two index fingers and thats it.

I%26#39;m not sure if there have been any changes since then. It would be good to know if there have been as I plan to visit the US early next year. Information on the UK passport site is pretty vague.

Your right chantal

when arriving at customs they do take your finger print ask you to look ahead into the camera for i recognition,

mj6 your new passport will have the relevant info on it obviously if you havent been to the states before then this will be the first time for your finger print and eye photo when you get there.

yes you%26#39;ll be fine, you will just be fingerprinted and eye recognationed when entering.

Just remember the criteria for the visa waiver can check on the embassy site

It is not eye recognition or a retinal scan, it is facial recognition. Fingerprint analysis is not like CSI 2 minutes in the scanner.

You can follow the progress of your application on line and it takes 3 weeks.

All new issue passports since July 2006 will automatically be machine readable %26amp; also bio-metric. All that means is when you apply, you must adhere to all the requirements listed regarding the photograph. They are a lot fussier about such stuff as how close or distance you are in the photo, as a certain % of your head has to be in the photo for their machine to read it bio-metrically. They will reject any pics not suitable, so do read the enclosed flyer with your application carefully!!

The above are currently the only passport requirements. Earlier last year they were only randomly issueing bio-metric passports , and USA postponed the date they required bio-metric on our new passports because of this delay. However now all passports will be of this type, as required by USA.

Older passports, I think issued before July last year are fine as they are machine readable. There is no eye recognition or fingerprints on any passports issued by GB offices.

PS

Check very old passports as they may not be machine readable %26amp; then you will need a new one!
