help me please

We are going to arrive in Destin on July 7th. We are bringing our 3 boys and my parents. We are not real big on the ';tourist traps'; since this is our first time to come and visit would anyone be able to give me a couple of ideas on where to eat that are reasonably priced? Also, what would be the ';one'; thing that we should not miss doing? I am really worried about the sharks and rip tides how far out should I let my boys go? I would really appreciate some advice and help Thank-you yall have a good nite

help me please

Just remember to pay attention to the ';flags'; - for swimming safety.

help me please

we always like Pompano Joe%26#39;s for lunch, but what is reasonably priced in July in Destin? The view is worth the price though. The one thing for us is watching the fishing fleet come back from a day of fishing. That and sitting on the beach at sunset.

I think Dewey Destin%26#39;s is reasonably priced. Also Callahans.

just got back from destin. myself, hubby %26amp; our 2 boys 5 %26amp; 7. if you watch the flag system, you will be fine. i told my boys ';green means go';. when flags are yellow ( 2 out of 8 days for us), we didnt let our boys go in the water without 1 or both of us b-c i had the same concern. as far as how far to let them go out into the water, mine pretty much stayed waist down, BUT...if you have never been to destin, you will see quickly that you can see your toes if you are in waist deep water. also, we stayed at tops%26#39;l and there were sandbars every few feet up %26amp; down the ocean so my boys loved playing on the sandbars. they could be 50feet out on the sandbar %26amp; the water was at their calves. hope this helps. oh, %26amp; about the sharks, we were headed out to the beach 1 day %26amp; a guy came down the beach on his 4wheeler %26amp; made everyone get out of the water. they had spotted a shark down in sandestin area %26amp; we had to stay out of the water for an hour. did it concern me? yeah, but after an hour, everyone goes right back in water. personally, i made sure i never took my eyes off of my boys %26amp; they couldnt go very deep. you will absolutely love destin!!

thankyou everyone for the help it is greatly appreciated.

On the other thread you started, a poster told you kids could to 40 yards into the water.

Under NO circumstances let your children go 40 yards into the water.

Get to understnad out Flag system, it is not taken lightly. It is for your safety. Here is the website

We DO have rip tides, that is part of what the flag system is all about.

thank-you for letting me know I have a copy of the flag system and I am writting down advice in my trusty notebook thank you all sooo much for your help I tend to be a little over protective of my boys.

It think yards is hard to say because you never really know how deep the water is. Our general rule is waist deep on green flag day. yellow just in to the waves to get a splash we don%26#39;t mess with the red flags. As an adult I can feel the sand washing away beneath me. We also always make sure our little one has on a life jacket in the gulf. However don%26#39;t let that give you a false sense of security. do a search for the sharks on this website there is some great advice. Like don%26#39;t go past the 1st sand bar for one but there is a whole list.

I think your boys would enjoy going to The Track for some go cart action. It doesn%26#39;t cost anything to get in and look around to see if it%26#39;s something they would like to do. If it doesn%26#39;t look appealing or is too crowed it won%26#39;t cost a dime to just look around.

If your boys are younger they offer 2-seater carts that the adult can drive and the child has a %26#39;dummy%26#39; steering wheel, the admission price for the 2-seater is the same as the single seater. But it%26#39;s not cheap, everything in Destin is kinda pricey. Unless you plan on just going to the beach you will fork over the bucks for just about any activity.

If you do the Track, I highly recommend spending the $105 and get a block of 48 tickets, that is the best price per ticket. If you try buying smaller groups of tickets you%26#39;ll soon find yourself spending the $100 anyway and not have done as much. They also have putt-putt and an arcade to spend your tickets on.
